Wedding DJ Services in Des Moines, Iowa

Cadara Events provides professional wedding DJ services for couples throughout Des Moines and Central Iowa — from intimate backyard ceremonies to full-night receptions at Des Moines's most celebrated venues.

A wedding is the one event where every part of the night has to work. The wrong song during the processional, dead air between dinner and dancing, a first dance that feels rushed — these are the moments guests remember for the wrong reasons. Getting them right requires someone who has done this before, understands how a wedding night actually flows, and takes the planning as seriously as you do.

Todd Clark has been DJing professionally since 1998, with nearly 30 years of experience reading crowds and managing event flow across every type of celebration. Weddings demand a specific kind of attention — part music director, part event coordinator, part crowd reader — and that combination is exactly what Cadara Events brings to every wedding booking.

How a Wedding Night Actually Flows

Most couples think of their DJ as the person who plays music during dancing. In practice, a good wedding DJ is managing energy and transitions across the entire night — often four to six hours of continuous event time.

A typical wedding night moves through distinct phases, each with its own feel and purpose:

  • Ceremony — Prelude background music as guests arrive, processional, recessional. Quiet, intentional, and timed to your cues.
  • Cocktail hour — Ambient, conversational music that sets a warm tone while guests mingle. This is not the time to peak the energy — it is the time to build it.
  • Dinner — Background music that is present without being distracting. Coordinating with the venue and catering team to keep the timeline moving.
  • Formal moments — Grand entrance, first dance, parent dances, toasts, cake cutting. Each one timed, announced cleanly, and transitioned out of smoothly.
  • Open dancing — Building energy across the dance floor, reading what is working, mixing across genres and decades, keeping guests on the floor through the final song.

Managing all of that well requires experience, preparation, and real-time adaptability — not a laptop and a playlist.

Planning Before Your Wedding Day

Every Cadara Events wedding booking includes a pre-event planning call to go through your timeline, music preferences, and key moments before the event. We review your must-plays, your do-not-plays, your entrance songs, your first dance selection, and anything else that matters to you — so that on the day itself, there are no questions, no guesses, and no last-minute surprises.

For couples working with a wedding planner or venue coordinator, we coordinate directly. For couples managing the day themselves, we serve as an anchor point for the timeline — keeping things on track without requiring you to manage us.

Wedding DJ Questions

Do you DJ wedding ceremonies?

Yes. Ceremony music — processional, recessional, and prelude background music — is available as part of our Resonance and Flow packages. If your ceremony and reception are at the same venue, we handle the full transition. For separate ceremony locations, reach out and we can discuss logistics.

How far in advance should we book for a wedding?

As soon as you have a venue and date confirmed. Summer and early fall weekends in Des Moines fill up quickly — sometimes 12 to 18 months out. That said, we do have last-minute availability from time to time. The best move is to reach out early and lock in your date before your first choice is gone.

What is the difference between the Resonance and Flow packages for weddings?

Resonance is designed for wedding receptions — it covers open dancing and key moments like entrances, toasts, and first dances, with enhanced sound and lighting. Flow covers the full event from arrival through last dance, including ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner, and open dancing in one seamless 6-hour experience. Most couples who want everything handled in one go choose Flow.

Can we submit a must-play and do-not-play list?

Always. Your must-plays are built into the night. Your do-not-plays are respected — no exceptions. Beyond that, we use our read of the room to fill in the gaps, keeping energy where it needs to be at every phase of the night.

Do you coordinate with our wedding planner or venue coordinator?

Yes. Coordination with planners, venue staff, and photographers is part of how we work — especially on Flow bookings where timing across ceremony, cocktails, dinner, and dancing has to be seamless. We are not the DJ who shows up, plays music, and leaves. We are an active part of making the timeline work.

How does your wedding planning process work?

After booking, we schedule a pre-event planning call to go through your timeline, music preferences, must-plays, do-not-plays, and any special moments (first dance, parent dances, introductions, etc.). We review everything with you before the event so there are no surprises on the day.
